La Traviata - review
Leonard and Palchykov light up a triumphant Garsington production.
"Palchykov was ideal casting as the unworldly country boy smitten with the seemingly sophisticated beauty, his unaffected devotion clearly a shock to Violetta, so used to the superficiality of her Paris friends. His singing of ‘Un dì, felice’ and ‘De’ miei bollenti spiriti’ was notable for its clarity, sweetness and absence of intrusive aspirates – a rare thing in a tenor. He mixes a pretty mean martini in mid-aria, too."

"LA TRAVIATA"
REVIEW
"As Alfredo, Oleksiy Palchykov brought vocal warmth and dramatic sincerity to the role. His performance captured the character’s youthful ardour while avoiding superficiality, and his exceptional chemistry with Leonard made the lovers’ relationship wholly believable. Their duets evolved naturally from tentative attraction to profound emotional commitment.
This was a La Traviata in which musical and theatrical values were perfectly aligned."

"The singers were also so committed that it is hard to know whether the singing or the acting should be praised first. This is especially true of Oleksiy Palchykov as Catullus, who I have never seen so well in his role. Athletically trained, he literally threw himself into the role."
